I'm not able to reproduce this on git-master or on Fedora 42

Can you see if the same thing happens with a new user? Thanks.

I have tested on up-to-date Fedora 42 with Plasma 6.4.1 and a new user account: the bug still persists.

Can also reproduce on Fedora 42 with Plasma 6.4.1.

It has crashed more than 300 times since June 20th after having reinstalled plasma-desktop because some widgets broke after a bunch of minor updates.

Sorry, I meant maliit-keyboard is crashing constantly, which is why I went investigating and found the bug described here.

Same issue here on Fedora 42: maliit crashed, so I went to disable "Virtual Keyboard" in System Settings. Alas, choosing "None" does not persist. Switching to other settings panel and returning "Maliit" is back as selected option. Interesting, that I was able to select "IBus Wayland" and it was saved correctly. But then choosing "None" leads to "Maliit" being selected again. Is there any "registry" to check what is actually stored to system settings when selection is made?
Comment 8 joshas 2025-08-03 18:17:40 UTC
Found where settings are stored: `~/.config/kwinrc`
When "None" is selected, setting is stored as:

[Wayland]
InputMethod[$d]

But settings is still showing "Maliit" as selected option.

If something crashed, we need a backtrace of it so we can figure out what's going on. Can anyone who can reproduce the crash please attach a backtrace using the coredumpctl command-line program, as detailed in https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl ?

Thanks.

`maliit-keyboard` crashing is not the cause of this particular issue, just a bug that led to finding problem in System Settings, where setting Virtual Keyboard to "None" does not persist and gives impression that it is impossible to disable virtual keyboard.

If someone wants to create a new issue and tackle `maliit-keyboard` crashes, there are a lot of backtraces collected, e.g. https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/reports/1219903/
