SUMMARY I think this change (https://invent.kde.org/plasma/powerdevil/-/merge_requests/399) was a step in the right direction, but unfortunately the badge is not visible when the percentage is shown. Also, I think the badge is too small for thin panels (including the default one). One possible solution that I think it would work is to make the battery icon vertical instead of horizontal. It could be centered when not showing the battery percentage, and on the left next to the percentage number when this is enabled. Android does a similar thing here. The badge could be put in the center of the battery icon using all the space. I think this solution would work nicely in both vertical and horizontal panels. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Enable percentage in power and battery applet 2. Switch between different power profiles OBSERVED RESULT Percentage hides most of the badge. Only a small corner is visible. Even without the number, the badge looks too small in my opinion. EXPECTED RESULT It is nice to always keep the battery icon. I like how the MR fixed that. But I still think a better solution is possible, one that works for vertical and horizontal panels, also thin ones, and with or without the percentage of battery being shown. I just found a long discussion about the new icons here: https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/breeze-icons/-/merge_requests/376 I was surprised that there is not a single mention to vertical icons there, so perhaps there is a good reason to prefer these icons horizontal, and this was discussed somewhere else. In any case, I still think that independently of the icons, current situation is not ideal with the percentage enabled and perhaps the issue can be fixed from the qml side, not modifying the icons at all.
Can confirm. The percentage badge causes other problems too; we might want to do a radical re-think of it. See also https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Design/Frequently_Discussed_Topics#Battery_status_icon_and_charge_percentage
