Created attachment 172599 [details] Screen Capture Video of actual crash SUMMARY General crash behavior was first seen on 2024-08-13. Only occurs when using Save As, or Save Copy As. Standard Save or CTRL-S is unaffected. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open any File 2. Choose File > Save As (or File Save Copy As) 3. Application crashes, closes and vanishes. OBSERVED RESULT Kate application vanishes immediately after clicking "Save As" or "Save Copy As" or CTRL+SHIFT+S If no changes were made to a file, reopening that file shows no messages. If any changes were made, the warning "The file was not closed properly" is displayed upon reopening and the option to Recover Data is available. EXPECTED RESULT Save As dialog box normally appears next. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS / jammy ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If something crashed, we need a backtrace of it so we can figure out what's going on. Can you please attach a backtrace of the crash using the coredumpctl command-line program, as detailed in https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl? Thanks! Also kate doesn't have a 24.11.70 version. Which version are you on?

Seems like you are using snap? Could be a snap packaging issue. Can you try running kate under gdb instead of valgrind (not sure if its possible with snaps?
Perhaps just another snap issue.
Created attachment 172650 [details] attachment-640612-0.html Hi Wagar, It's not possible on this machine, throws a lot of missing libs and unavailable errors when I try to install GDB. This was working fine for the past month, it just stopped working a few days ago - I use it every day. I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling to no avail. Hope you can figure this out. Thanks, -J On 8/15/24 11:16 AM, Waqar Ahmed wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491691 > > Waqar Ahmed<waqar.17a@gmail.com> changed: > > What |Removed |Added > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Platform|Ubuntu |Snap > CC| |waqar.17a@gmail.com > > --- Comment #4 from Waqar Ahmed<waqar.17a@gmail.com> --- > Seems like you are using snap? Did you update the snap before that started to crash? I would assume the last update is faulty.
My apologies, I have triggered a re-build after a qt/kf update. My apologies.
Errors can happen. And that one is not that easy to find, it not just crashes everytime. But just to understand: which version is in the snap? Just the last development one?
Yes latest master. I need to start copying to release branches as building master can also cause problems. So much to do, so little time. But this is most certainly the content pack update. I missed kate on rebuild somehow. Completely my fault. Need an automated solution to fix this human error.
I think it would make sense to just ship only the last stable release as snap, for early testing we still have the app images on our web site. I think following master is too unsafe for users.
Hello everyone, I'm sad to report that I uninstalled / reinstalled SNAP per @WAQAR and after that I could not launch anything thing (Kate, Firefox, Beekeeper, etc.) ...so I had to pull the drive (I saved it) and loaded a brand new OS. This time a KDE native (Kbuntu). I'm happy to report that everything is working normally again including Save As and Save Copy As. I don't know what caused the original problem, but it might have coincided with installing Flatpak. It's the only thing that recently changed. In any case I've corrupted the "crime scene" on that workstation image now, so we may as well close this case/ticket. The new KDE OS is very slick and hopefully will perform better with Kate than GNOME Thank you for your quick response.
