Version: 1.90 (using KDE 3.0.8 (KDE 3.1 beta2)) Installed from: Gentoo Compiler: gcc version 3.1 OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.19-gentoo-r7 KMix shows four mixers with the title "Ensoniq AudioPCI". It shows me sixteen different sliders (perhaps ok, I don't know for sure how many should be found). The settings of the sliders aren't read from the current mixer settings, they aren't saved and they don't affect the volume when changed. The same problem goes with all these four mixer pages. KMix's kicker-applet doesn't show any mixer at all. I'm using an Ensoniq ES1370 based soundcard with Alsa 0.9rc2 and I've compiled KMix with Alsa-support. KMix of KDE 3.0.2 still works fine with Alsa's OSS-emulation.

I don't have this problem with kmix of KDE 3.1 anymore. But now I'm using SuSE 8.1. I'm using RPMs from ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.1/SuSE/ix86/8.1 I don't know if kmix was compiled with alsa-support here, too. It would be nice if someone who knows about these packages would tell us if kmix supports alsa or are still uses oss.
Hello, I believe this bug is fixed. On "14 Dec 2002" there was made a bug fix regarding "multiple mixers". I am unsure about the "they don't affect the volume when changed" thing. So it would be nice if somebody besides Christian Nitschkowski could confirm that the bug is fixed. You need KDE3.1.1 (probably even KDE3.1 will do) to test this. Eagerly awaiting feedback. Chris

Subject: Re: Cannot change the volumes on an SBLive Sorry, for not closing #49147 before. Compiling the kdemultimedia with correct switches solved the problem for me since I don't know when... Right now I use: --with-alsa --with-arts-alsa --enable-audio=oss I believe the last one was the needed option, but I don't have time to play with and try now. Well, the latter option removes ALSA support completely from kmix. This solves the problem for you but the bug is not fixed by this. And you only get the inferior OSS mixer options (ALSA has better mixer interface). But with current KDE (3.1.1, perhaps 3.1 as well) it should be possible to leave out the --enable-audio switch (which should mean to include ALSA and OSS support). If you have current KDE sources at hand I would like to hear back from you. So I am not closing this bug currently (Hint: Bug 49147 has been merged with this bug). If you don't have KDE sources handy or no time please report this here, so that other people with this problem can take action. Chris
Subject: Re: KMix detects four non-existant mixers Hi, I have a quite up-to-date HEAD, and will make an update in the following days, so I will remove the flag and test the ALSA support in KMix. Unfortunately, I won't update my BRANCH sources in the near feature, so I cannot test it in BRANCH. Andras
Subject: Re: KMix detects four non-existant mixers I've tested with a recent kdemultimedia (before your last commits), and it seems to work with ALSA. From my point of view, you can close the bug report. Andras
Thanks for reporting back. Bug reported to be fixed in HEAD. Other branches will not be fixed. Closing bug. Chris
All fixed Bugs (once verified) should be closed. Doing so. Chris PS: KDE3.1.2. fixed as well
