SUMMARY
I use KDE clipboard (earlier klipper but now clipboard plasmoid) not just to copy-paste but also to store bank account numbers, telephone numbers, tax account numbers etc of all family members.

This makes it very handy to copy-paste them by searching them in clipboard. However this requires that for searching the number, you must remember first 2-3 digits. This however may not always be possible.

If clipboard has a feature of tagging (or labeling) clipboard item say for example, WIFEBANK, DADBANK, MOMBANK etc. I can search on tags and then copy the number.

So please add this feature of tagging clipboard item. An item can also have multiple tags / labels.

Thank you

This is a fascinating and creative use case, but I'm afraid it's rather outside of the bounds of what the widget was intended to be used for. You may instead of be interested in the proposed "pinned clipboard items" feature (Bug 54212) that you could use to pin these items. Beyond that, I think it would be a better idea to store information of this kind in a text file where the data could be explained, annotated, encrypted, etc. Your family members may even appreciate the data being stored in an encrypted container (e.g. using Plasma vaults) rather than in plaintext on the machine, available for everyone to access. :)

Yes I already have it stored in text file. But Clipboard / Klipper is so easy to use and invoke.

Let me give you an example.

Let us say you are working in firefox where you want to paste Mom's bank account number.

You have firefox open. You need to open text file. Search the text (e.g. MOMBANK). Select the number next to it, Copy it, switch back to firefox and paste it.

Now if same thing was in clipboard (klipper)

You have firefox open. Press Windows-V (invokes clipboard) and type MOMBANK and voila number is there. Press enter and it gets copied automatically, Now paste it.

It would make it so easy.

I would really like that you take opinion of people for this feature to implemented right in to clipboard.

I am re-opening the ticket with apologies.

But do give it one last thought before closing it again.

Thank you.

You know, that does sound useful. I can see myself using it to quickly call up standard responses while triaging bug reports. I think it would make sense to implement as a sub-feature of the pinned items feature; after pinning a piece of text, you could assign it a searchable tag or name.

Yes indeed there are many ways this feature will be useful to different people.

Pinning is great feature too. But please do not make pinning compulsory for this feature of tagging. Non pinned items can also be tagged or named.

Thank you for ACCEPTING the feature.
