Created attachment 169203 [details] video of bug using konsole as an example SUMMARY Maximizing certain windows, closing the window, removing the windows maximization, then resizing the window results in the window becoming the wrong size. The problem occurs both with and without wobbly windows. Video example attached. I personally tested Discover, Konsole, Dolphin, Elisia, Thunderbird, and Element. Out of these, only Konsole, Dolphin, and Element were affected. Elisa and Discover seemed to forget that they were maximized when last closed. Thunderbird seemed to be unaffected. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open an affected application. 2. Maximize the applications window. 3. Close the window while it is still maximized. 4. Reopen the application. 5. Return the window to its previous size by holding the title bar and dragging it down. 6. Grab the bottom or side of the window to resize it. OBSERVED RESULT Window is sized incorrectly because of not grabbed side moving. EXPECTED RESULT Side that is not grabbed does not move. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Kionite 40 KDE Plasma Version: 6.04 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10 Qt Version: 6.7.0 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Using Nvida 550.76 and wayland.
I can also reproduce this with Dolphin on the mainline Fedora 40 KDE spin, with the same version of Plasma, Frameworks, QT and the Nvidia driver, also on Wayland. Though, I think this should be under kwin not plasmashell
I can't reproduce this issue with Konsole, Dolphin, Element or System Monitor (all of which remember maximization status across launches) also on Fedora 40, but with an Intel GPU. May be NVIDIA-specific.
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2) > Fedora 40, but with an Intel GPU. May be NVIDIA-specific. Just installed Fedora 40 Plasma spin (not kionite) on my AMD laptop using the amdgpu driver. Tested with dolphin and system monitor. The issue is present. It is key that you "demaximize"(is there a better term for this?) the window by dragging it, not by using the button on the title bar.
I experience this even when using the button, as that's how I originally tested your steps to reproduce
I too can reproduce the issue on my AMD graphics system under a Wayland session I cannot reproduce it under X11 So setting wayland keyword and removing NVIDIA from Summary Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0 Qt Version: 6.7.0 Kernel Version: 6.8.7-arch1-2 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 2 × AMD A6-6400K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics Graphics Processor: AMD CEDAR
Possibly not relevant, but: I tested it using a new fully default user account. Under my normal account, dragging the title bar in step 5 moves the window but does not demaximise it (isn't 'restore' the correct word?), so I can't grab the window edge to resize. There must be some setting somewhere...
Are there any obvious common denominators with the affected and unaffected apps? Kirigami instead of QtWidgets for example?
From the original summary, it seems like it. Elisa and Discover forgot they were maximised, and are both Kirigami. Dolphin and Konsole are QtWidgets apps. Though, with 4 applications tested, this probably isn't a good enough indicator.

There must be some setting somewhere... Some programs don't reopen in an actually maximized state, they are just the same size as a maximized window. Elisa comes to mind as an example on my system anyway. (In reply to tduck973564 from comment #4) > I experience this even when using the button, as that's how I originally > tested your steps to reproduce Hmm, on my desktop I could only make the issue occur by dragging it with the title bar. I didn't even bother testing it with the buttons on my laptop, but I will have to check. (In reply to tduck973564 from comment #8) > From the original summary, it seems like it. I found Element (the matrix client) running in full Wayland to be affected. System Monitor was also affected.
(In reply to sirmrsir from comment #9) > System Monitor was also affected. I believe System Monitor is Kirigami, so that could rule that out.
*** Bug 487183 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
This bug appears to be fixed in the recent 6.1 beta release (kwin 6.0.90). Previously I was experiencing it in many applications, most notably firefox but also dolphin, konsole, kwrite and others.
Great!
