Same problem for me. I also tried installing libokular5core9 and libokular5core11 to fix it, but that didn't help.

I assume this is due to the inline viewer, which never worked for me anyway (because I use xelatex and it only seems to work with pdflatex).
Maybe making that component optional could work as a quick workaround?
Comment 2 pipapo 2024-03-03 13:35:41 UTC
That's a gold idea. But how to change the setting if the ui is not available?
Comment 3 Arek Guzinski 2024-03-04 16:06:51 UTC
Sorry, I was maybe a bit unclear about that idea...

What I mean is that the developers might change the code, so that the okular-part is not necessary to start kile, so that we might use it until kile is properly ported to kf6. I also tried if I could quickly do this myself by removing all okular-related stuff from the source and fix a few things until it compiles again... but as expected, it wasn't that easy :/.

Settings can be changed without the UI by editing ~/.config/kilerc, but that is not enough to make kile start again (otherwise I would not even have noticed this problem).
Comment 4 Jonathan Riddell 2024-03-04 16:24:54 UTC
Unfortunately Kile hasn't had a stable release in many years and even the latest unstable release is 2 years old. However looking at Git the app does seem to have some development ongoing so I'll enquire about that. Otherwise it should be declared unsupported by KDE as there is not currently a release that builds or runs.
Comment 5 Jonathan Riddell 2024-03-05 10:01:38 UTC
Unfortunately the Kile developers say it's not ready yet so there is no currently supported release
Comment 6 Cyrille Dunant 2024-03-09 15:56:05 UTC
I apologise, but although the developer is free to do as they wish, this is BS. Unless it crashes systematically, a slightly unstable kile is vastly more useful than a somewhat unstable one. As it stands, users can't even help by reporting issues.

Agreed, which is why I and others have been gently pushing for a new release for years. Hopefully that new release materializes soon.

In the meantime, keep in mind that Neon's policy is to package KDE software vanilla, without patches. Any KDE software that hasn't gotten released in tears and can't be built unpatched therefore is not eligible. If this isn't acceptable, it might be a sign that Neon isn't the right distro for you.
