Description Steve Cossette 2024-01-29 16:47:24 UTC
Problem: In dolphin, if you set a filter on a specific column in a specific folder, Dolphin will not retain your preference next time it is started.

Steps to reproduce:
1- Open Dolphin, go in any folder.
2- Click on a column to sort by said column.
3- Close, and reopen Dolphin
4- Go back to that folder.

The filter you set should have reverted back.

(NOTE: This bug does not occur on the "File Picker" dialogs in apps, that one retains the settings you set as far as filters go.)

Is Dolphin in per-folder sorting mode, or global sorting mode? You can see in its config dialog.
Comment 3 Steve Cossette 2024-01-29 22:21:42 UTC
It's set to "Use common display style for all folders", I swear it was set to remember display style for each folder though...

I found something interesting.

If I go in a folder and click on the "Modified" column to sort, and restart dolphin, it will not remember the settings.

BUT, if I do the same sorting, but using the Right Click -> Sort By -> Modified and relaunch Dolphin, THEN it remembers.

Please note that my bug report, 514381, goes into more detail about this and the current state of this regression. Specifically the exact commit that exacerbates this bug to a worse state. This bug has manifested into a worse state where not only does a column (category) not save on restart, but also the 'role' (sort by A-Z, Z-A, newer, older, etc.) does not save either. It isn't exactly a duplicate. Bug was first present in 25.12.0 and is still present in 25.12.1 and is also still present in current dolphin main branch with current git commit as of this message. As it stands, I cannot use updated Dolphin versions because of this bug.

Edit, I didn't mean my bug report, just the one I was following.
