This is unfortunately an upstream bug. See https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/hadess/power-profiles-daemon/-/issues/106.

Thanks for having reported it already. For the project ` power-profiles-daemon` it says on gitlab:
> Archived project! Repository and other project resources are read-only
What does this mean for your bug report? Should it be reported somewhere else again or is the only right place the kernel bug report [1]?
At least someone has been assigned for more than a year, but it doesn't look like anything is moving or will move anytime soon. :-(

Unfortunately it means what it says: that the project is archived, and so the bug is unlikely to ever be fixed at the power-profiles-daemon level unless the project is un-archived and someone resumes work on it. So we need to hope for that, or else that it's a kerne bug which someone will fix.

It's of course somehow bad that this Plasma component now relies on an EOL project.
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2023-09-06 19:01:53 UTC
Of course, but this is a fairly new development that we have not yet had time to determine how to react to. The maintainer of that repo (as well as many others that are widely used through the FOSS world) just up and archived them all with no forewarning or transition plan.

Ultimately someone will probably end up forking them if Bastien doesn't un-archive them.

I'm seeing a very similar bug, except that `powerprofilesctl` shows the correct state (while the slider still jumps back to the left), see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483454

BTW, the upstream project is active again, at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/power-profiles-daemon/

Also, I find it a weird to mark bug as "resolved upstream", when it is not in fact resolved, neither here nor upstream (upstream just decided that https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/power-profiles-daemon/-/issues/106 is a firmware problem, and thus not their problem)

Your issue is different; see Bug 475255.

Being marked as RESOLVED UPSTREAM doesn't mean it's actually fixed upstream; just that the bug is an upstream issue not actionable from the KDE side. See https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Issue_Reporting#Understand_what_the_resolution_statuses_mean
