Description thebluequasar 2023-01-19 12:20:22 UTC
SUMMARY
With multiple identities and accounts set up, when I try to compose a new email, it always uses one of them by default and changing the default identity in the settings has no effect.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open KMail with more than one identity and accounts set up, and try to compose a new email
2. It will use one identity to compose that email. Now, head to the settings, identities , and change the default identity to another.
3. Again open a "new email" dialog, the identity used is still the same as before changing the default identity.

OBSERVED RESULT
Changing the default identity should change the identity that is used for composing new emails.

EXPECTED RESULT
Changing the default identity in the settings has no effect on the identity used for creating new emails.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon User 5.26
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.102
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kmail version: 5.22.1
Akonadi server (and other related packages): 22.12.1

* I mistakenly typed the Expected and the Observed results in the place of one another. To be extra clear, these are the correct ones:

OBSERVED RESULT
Changing the default identity in the settings has no effect on the identity used for creating new emails.

EXPECTED RESULT
Changing the default identity should change the identity that is used for composing new emails.

This bug also has a critical side effect: since it's no longer possible to send an email with a specific identity, encryption keys associated with that identity also cannot be used, which is a major problem. I tried manually typing my desired identity in the "From" box of the "New email" dialog, but KMail won't detect the identity and encryption keys defined for that identity in the way. This is the reason I thought I should mark the "severity" as "Major", since it affects and can completely stop the user from using any sort of cryptography (signing and encyrption).

it works fine.
Are you sure that in your folder config you didn't configure a specific identity ?
