Without the video file we cannot help here. Please upload the video file to a file service so we can download and test it. You can also send us the link to the private mail if you don't want to make the file publicly available. We can't test anything just based on the media info. Maik
Please also test it with our current digiKam AppImage from here: https://files.kde.org/digikam/ I suspect that the Ubuntu digiKam version was compiled without sufficient video codec support. Maik

I think I don't understand your problem correctly. Thanks for the video file, it plays here with my native digiKam developer version without any problems. The video has no sound at first as it is a slideshow created with digiKam. We have two slide show presenters in digiKam. The video plays without any problems in the slideshow, that is the tool with the toolbar at the bottom left. Then we have the presentation tool that allows you to set background music. Here, too, the video plays without any problems, with background music from MP3 files here. In which slideshow tool do you have the problem? Can you play the video in normal view, was a thumbnail created? Maik

Thanks for the shared video files, they all play fine for me. We just fixed bug 464220 that could lead to incorrect video file types and sizes in the video slideshow tool. We now also know from other bug 464187 report that the Ubuntu FFmpeg packages are either broken or incomplete. Can you also reproduce the problem with our AppImage? If you want, you can also write me the problem in a private mail in German. Maik

Hi Gilles, For example, I received this log from Burghard from the digiKam-8.0.0 AppImage in a private mail. It comes from Debian Buster. How do the VLC messages come about? With my developer version there are no problems playing the videos, but the AppImage doesn't play the MP4 videos either. However, I have no VLC messages. I have a link here to a German Ubuntu forum that also talks about this problem and the users claim that we use VLC. Could it be that the AppImage is using FFmpeg installed in the system?
