SUMMARY STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Save a file with a very long file name to the desktop 2. Select it by clicking on it OBSERVED RESULT When the file is not selected, the filename is truncated and shown with an ellipsis ("...") and that's fine. When I select it, the filename (now highlighted) is STILL truncated with the ellipsis. In order to see the whole file name, I have to right-click and inspect file Properties. When you have several (meaning more than 2) files with long names that only differ in the ending, this gets very irritating. EXPECTED RESULT When you select a file, the entire filename should be shown one way or another (be it in-place or in a tooltip if it gets too long, if you want), even if it gets a little ugly. It could be ok to still have a limit, e.g. in the few hundred of characters, if there's a concern that a file with hugely long file name can render the desktop unusable, but I can't really imagine how that would happen. The important thing is that I MUST be able to see the full name of a file on the desktop quickly, with no more effort than clicking on it, without opening a whole File Properties window.
