There are some issues with project loading in 21.12.0 which can lead to render crash. In the meantime we have fixed some project loading issue. Make a copy of your project file and please try with the nightly build to see if your render crash is fixed. https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Kdenlive_Nightly_mingw64/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/

I had the same problem. Windows 10, Kdenlive 21.12.0 or 21.12.1 installed over 21.08 or older. Also the last daily build has after installation over the same problem. Provisional solution: It is necessary at first to uninstall previous version of Kdenlive. This unstalation has to be really complete. Please do not use "Windows uninstallation", but something better. I used IOBitUninstaller. After them you can install Kdenlive 21.12.1 and it will work OK: No crash by rendering. Conclusion: The problem is somewhere between new clear instalation, and instalation over the old version. Any residue of old version by instalation "over" causes the crash by renderings end. What is it? - It is a question for authors. I hope this comment can help. Peter
Thank you for your feedback. I guess the file dbus-daemon.exe is the problem. The uninstall routine seems didn't delete the whole Kdenlive folder.
Not being very computer savvy, I think I'll keep the working previous version and wait till the install routine is fixed so that it takes care of the file that is causing the problem.
Hello, I tried upgrading from 20.12.2 to 21.12.3 and I'm experiencing the same issue. The rendering progresses, but it crashes right after reaching 100%. I am getting the same issue on linux. I am trying with melt using the file generated in /tmp/ outside kdenlive, so maybe the bug is on the file generated by kdenlive 22.04.1 and melt 7.6.0.
I upgraded to Kdenlive 22.04.3, tried rendering an exiting project, got the same rendering errors. [mp4 @ 000001748372cec0] Timestamps are unset in a packet for stream 1. Frame: 702 I tried starting a completely new project, dragged in a random video clip, and tried rendering a small part of it using the "selected zone" option instead of "full project" (I was impatient :3) It succeeded??? I tried opening the existing project that was failing before and then rendered it to mp4 again. It succeeded??? And to webm succeeded as well. I am very confused ^_^;;
Having the same issue with the 22.04.3 and the nightly as well. Flatpak builds are the most troublesome, the AppImage seems more stable but I had one such crash there also. Starting the render again right after the crash without touching anything seems to help in some cases. The input clips are all H264 4K, the project is also 4K 23.96 fps. I am using proxies on all clips and lots of effects (Bezier Curves, Vignette, Deband, Video noise generator, LUT to name a few) on clips and tracks but none on the Master. By the way, Vignette (not Vignette Effect) often behaves abnormally on the beginning of a clip - first couple of frames contain no effect, then it appears but shrunk (i.e. the frame is almost black except for the center) for one frame, and after that it is normal.
More info: I am rendering using the standard MP4-H264/AAC template but changing it to WebM or anything else or creating a custom one does not help. Parallel Processing is on, 16 threads (CPU is Ryzen with 8 cores). I suspect that turning Parallel Processing off may help (or not?), I can't test it properly because rendering becomes impossibly slow because of the sheer amount of effects I am using on the 4K video.
Correction: AppImage 22.04.3 version does not crash, unless you hit "Abort Job". Then it crashes with the same errors: [mp3 @ 0x298af80] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate [mp3 @ 0x298c380] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate Warning: Ignoring XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland on Gnome. Try again with parallel processing switched off as some effects are not parallel save and Kdenlive will crash. Even the rendering takes ages.
Tried without Parallel Processing and it did not crash (rendering took 1h45m instead of 36m with PP on). I started rendering right after loading the project, without doing any editing whatsoever, so that's not a strictly clean experiment. I'll try it once again a bit later in a normal way, i.e. do some editing then render. Anyway AppImage version does NOT crash even with PP on, except for the case when I intentionally abort the rendering process, only the Flatpak versions do crash.
Just adding some info from my last comment. In my tests it was something on KDElive with melt. As the melt file generated was crashing melt after a while also if executed without kdenlive. So I remember that I did some changes to the projects as usual and the crash didn't happened again. I wasn't able to replicate and give more information but my guess is a bug in melt with some settings generated by kdenlive. My suggestion to others is to check if there is a mlt file in `/tmp` folder that is generated during the rendering process in Kdenlive, do a backup and execute melt with that file. If it is crashing also in that way is something in melt so this can help in the debugging.
Confirmed: that is the problem with MLT, or to be precise with the obscure not-yet-released MLT v7.9 used in the Flatpak version. Wherever they got it it's certainly not stable. Rendering the project externally using melt v7.8 does not cause any crash, despite the same warning messages.
On Debian Sid I have melt 7.8 and it was crashing. Maybe this require some further investigation and a project file that crashes melt.
2 Daniele Scasciafratte: which version of Kdenlive you're using? Binary from the distro repos, Ubuntu PPA, AppImage or Flatpak?
I use Debian Sid packages from official repositories no flatpak/appimag/whatever.
travier has just made a build of the latest flatpak release with mlt v7.8, and it still crashes. So what I can tell for sure now: 1. At least for me, calling the melt CLI tool (at least the version 7.8) manually with the .mlt file taken from the /tmp dir renders it successfully in 100% cases. 2. In Kdenlive, starting the render once again right after it has crashed, without touching anything in the interface, increases the number of successfully rendered frames. 3. Rendering with Parallel Processing turned off (seemingly) remedies the problem completely. Memory leak in some effect? Melt run from Terminal Emulator is somehow more resilient to memory leaks? Anyway, tomorrow I'll try to gradually strip off different effects in a hope to identify the one which causes trouble. Of course, if it's not a memory leak in the parallel processing code itself, irrespective of particular effects used.

Although there were lots of problems I have completed my project (that was a music video), but in my spare time I am still trying to figure out what exactly causes these crashes. If I remove all the track effects there are no crashes whatsoever, that's for sure. If I put only one any effect of the three that I use (Video Noise Generator, Deband and LUT) there are also no crashes. If I put all the three it crashes. Another strangeness is that sometimes the project gets into the state when one or more of these effects become not applied, i.e. they are in the list and active but there is no effect. The only way to fix this is to remove them and re-add again, but the latter problem has not appeared again since I started experimenting more systematically, making copies of the project on each stage. So I continue investigating.

Okay, here is the minimalistic project which I think exposes the same problem which I was struggling with when working on my music video: https://disk.yandex.ru/d/aqkbAfXXJv83aA There are 4 versions of the project (crash_test.kdenlive, crash_test2.kdenlive, etc.), from the most stable to the (probably) most unstable. Summarizing the test conditions: the system configuration is Debian 10 (stable), GNOME with Wayland, AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-Core CPU, 32 GB of RAM, MSI Radeon RX 5600 XT video card, HiDPI 4K monitor. Kdenlive is the Flatpak version, installed from Flathub into user space (not Super User/system-wide). QT backend is set to "xcb" via QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb added to org.kde.kdenlive env overrides. Rendering is done with Parallel Processing set to 15, setting it to 1 seemingly eliminates the problem. Crashes are starting to happen when I add several of Vignette and/or Cairo Gradient effects alongside with other complex effects (Video Noise Generator, Deband, LUT). When rendering crash_test3.kdenlive the crash can be provoked by dragging the timeline cursor back and forth and over the end of the project in the background while rendering the job.
The last assertion is incorrect: dragging the cursor does not provoke anything, at least not consistently.
Hi, I'm still having this issue. See: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458252
(In reply to candideu from comment #35) > Hi, I'm still having this issue. See: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458252 Please provide more info, the output log alone is not enough. The best thing would be a specially created small project which definitely provokes the crash and which you can share publicly in full.

I downloaded kdenlive packages in manjaro and it seems to be crashing every 2-3mins once Making my life tougher. Will wait for a day more and then shift to some other software even though kdenlive is so far the best one.

The Manjaro package comes from ArchLinux: https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/kdenlive The version there is 23.04.3-1, there was no official 23.04.3 release yet (at least there is nothing in the news on kdenlive.org). Also it was packed on 2023-07-06, that's 10 days old. I suggest you to wait or contact the package maintainer (Antonio Rojas) and ask for update.

"Out of memory" messages suggest there is a memory leak somewhere. It's unlikely in the Kdenlive itself, more likely in some effect or the MLT framework. Which effects are you using?

MLT is the core thing behind Kdenlive, it does all the rendering (https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/mlt), it is developed by different people. Anyway more info would be helpful. Run: flatpak run org.kde.kdenlive --mlt-log debug And report the debug info.

That's interesting. It seems that either 8 GB is not enough or swap is compulsory, just for rendering HD video of any length. But it seems so. Anyway I also have no problems with rendering even very complex 4K videos with lots of effects, but I have 32 GB.
FYI: there have been several fixes since in both Kdenlive and MLT with the last one being this: https://invent.kde.org/multimedia/kdenlive/-/commit/d479d8819f8ce97d437ee076d0abd951c3cd4180 Will be available in next release.
