I have just noticed that if a pdf is opened via right click -> open with another application -> Okular, instead of double-clicking, the file is actually opened in a tab of the already opened Okular. How is it possible to code this as default behaviour?

Still happening in Okular 24.02.0 on KDE Neon Plasma 6.
I also noticed that after a system restart (I shut it down and then turned it on again the day after) the feature works perfectly.
Double clicking on the PDF makes it open in a new tab, as expected.

So I guess the bug is just that it needs a system reboot to work?

I tested this in live session of KDE Neon and it worked.

I installed the snap Okular, and then I opened it with snap run okular to make sure that I'm on the snap version. I enabled the Open in new tabs setting, and then in KDE System Settings switched the default handler for PDF files from the .deb version (24.02.0) to the snap version (23.08.4).

snap info okular
channels:
  latest/stable: 23.08.4 2023-12-10 (148) 195MB -
  latest/candidate: 23.08.5 2024-02-16 (150) 196MB -
  latest/beta: ↑
  latest/edge: ↑

Then I opened first PDF, then second one and third, and they opened in new tabs. I closed the Okular snap and again opened PDF's, by double clicking on them in Dolphin, and again they opened in new tabs of the snap packaged Okular.

I also just tested it in my regular install of Ubuntu 24.04 development version and it works. I double click PDF files in Nautilus and they open in new tabs of snap Okular.
