(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 3.0.0
Severity: normal
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Not Specified
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

open up a composer
add an attachment (preferably a .zip or .tar.gz file) that is not plain text or an image. click "View" on that attachment (still in the composer menu)

"[KMail: Attachment contains binary data. Trying to show first 5 characters.]". this is not very useful at all. why not have "open" and "open with" menus like you do everywhere else (for consistency and actual usability) and rename "view" to "view with internal text viewer"?

i want to be able to open .zip attachments i have just added to check if they are correct!

thanx

This only occurs when composing. Once the email is in the sent folder, you have
the open with option in the pop-up menu for an attachment. In addition, in the
sent-items folder, the default action for "Open..." works just like Konqueror does. It
would be nice to have this behavior when composing as well.

Once, at work, I tried to install mozilla mail instead of outlook. It was because of the lack of this feature that outlook remained in place. Normally people want to check what they are about to send. I think this is a valuable feature in kmail.
