SUMMARY icon-only task manager animation missing on Wayland STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Pin a number of applications to the icon-only taskbar 2. launch the applications from the taskbar OBSERVED RESULT the application launch animation is played just fine on X but is completely missing on Wayland. EXPECTED RESULT The animation plays on Wayland SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.75.0 Qt Version: 5.15.1 Kernel Version: 5.9.0-rc5-1-amd-staging-drm-next-git-00333-gd8ac65b95423 OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
There isn't a generic protocol for this on Wayland right now, which would need to be implemented and agreed upon first. One is being worked on: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/50
I'm not sure what Nate is referring to. Plasma can activate other apps from the task manager. Animation should be the same. I didn't think we had animations from currently unlaunched-pinned apps on X though.
on X, there are two animations that I can observe when launching an application pinned to the icon-only taskbar. One is the bouncy icon animation attached to the cursor and the other is the spinning circle animation attached to the pinned icon itself. On Wayland, there is nothing. Neither animation is played. I hope I have described the animations correctly!
I confirm the issue reported by Pawel. No animation on the task manager icons and no bouncing/blinking mouse pointer.
Oh! Startup Indicators. Now I understand Nate's reference.
Yep. :)
