Description Riskable 2002-05-19 19:51:08 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: klipper
Version: KDE 3.0.0
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

It would be nice if one could assign permanent clipboard items that are always present in the Klipper menu regardless of what's actually in the clipboard.

This would be SUPREMELY USEFUL for people to quickly paste their signiture pre-defined text email replies and countless other uses.

What would make this feature even more appealing is if you could assign keystroke actions to these permanent items. Example approach:

Type "control-alt-V" to bring up the klipper menu then type "3" (or any assignable keystroke) to paste permanent item number 3 into the current cursor location/mouse focus point.

Yes predefined entries for klipper are already on my todo list as well as=
=20
assigning shortcuts to them :)

I guess I'll be able to add that for KDE 3.1.

You may want to check http://dforce.sh.cvut.cz/~seli/en/khotkeys , which is planned to
become part of KDE3.2 (not finished yet). Amongs its features is the ability to bind text to a
keyboard shortcut.

There is also the KSnippets effort. In any case, most other clipboard managers have static items, and Klipper should, too. After the basic support is in, I'll look into integrating this with similar KDE components.

This bug is covered by https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54212. I'm going to rather unfairly dup this against the younger bug, since the younger bug has some nice implementation suggestions --- if that is okay with everyone?
Comment 5 Riskable 2004-11-22 15:26:05 UTC
That's fine with me, as long as these great features get implemented. I've been waiting for this for a long time now!
