I recommend using kid3-qt instead of kid3 when not having KDE as your desktop environment. Since this seems to cause problems, I have now fixed it by using F5 instead of Ctrl+R for "Reload". See also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424859 https://invent.kde.org/multimedia/kid3/-/issues/495.
