screenshot of OS home folder vs digikams folder choices error

Digikam will only allow selection of [Pictures] folder. When trying to add another album/collection Digikam File manager popup window when trying to add another album will not show ANY folders located in /home/David/. 4 other folders on same level as [Pictures] contain images but digikam cannot see any other folders.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add Collection
2. Popup Window appears for folder selection
3. Pictures Folder appears

OBSERVED RESULT
no other folders visible / no parent "user" folders available

EXPECTED RESULT
listing of all folders in /home/user directory should be visible and selectable but nothing is listed.

The problem has already been reported. We checked our code, we only set a start folder, no filters. The cause are broken / patched Mint packages.

Maik, Being a sort of newb to "packages" and linux but willing to dive in.. could you possibly direct me towards a solution of what I need to "google" to rectify this error? I attempted the "Settings, Misc, Appearance, "native file dialogs" remedy but this gave me "native file dialogs but still [forced] pictures as the only directory selectable. Worst case scenario, could i downgrade back to 6.0 when digikam worked properly?

Additionally, when i choose a digikamdb location as /home.. I am met with the error "digikam cannot use the db location you chose" yada yada would you like digikam to create it for you? YES.. error.. digikam could not create the db files in that location ..after selecting another location.. I have searched numerous ways to find a solution to fixing this.
