Description postix 2020-04-09 14:04:49 UTC
Places are a nice tool to pin folders for quick access.
However, having too many clutters the panel again. For example I have 3 folders for university stuff, 2 for photography, 2 for programming, the the standard home folders, etc.

To counter this, I think it'd be convenient to enhance it. Here are some ideas:

1) Category-Folders for folders
Similar to bookmarks like in the FireFox browser, folders in places could be added to a "top-folder"

2) Folders, which belong a to certain category could gain a visual indicator, like a special colored background, a colored bar on a side

3) Titles could be added above the folders

4) Separator lines could divide categories

I hope you understand my problem and maybe you even have better ideas how to improve Dolphin in this section. :)

1 & 2: nested places have been rejected before. Dolphin in fact already has a real web browser style bookmarks feature (show menubar > Go menu > bookmarks) for people with sufficiently advanced needs such as these.

3: Sounds like you would like to be able to define custom groups essentially. Let's use the bug report to track this.

4: Already tracked with https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=169751
