Version: (using Devel) OS: Linux Installed from: Compiled sources In Dolphin, in the "Places" panel, it would be nice to be able to group some items by adding a simple separator between them. For instance... removable media could be grouped up so that you can visually see them as a distinct group. The user could also add his/her own separators and so making his/her own groups. For example: Home Music Videos --------------- (Removeable Media) CDROM DVDROM USB DISK --------------- (Network Devices) Work Music

Is this merely a separator, or a named separator... the latter, I am thinking, would be not nearly as simple as the former. In which case, should there be an additions of "Insert Separator"? I like this idea also..

I believe the best solution would be to have simple separators without labels that would make an already small area too crowded. But there should be at least two pre-existant groups: one for the fixed media and another for removeable media.
Yes, I fully agree...
I was about to ask for this, but just found this bug. Habits change - coming from Windows and KDE3, I didn’t think much of such places bars. But I find myself using it more and more and it’s becoming ever more crowded nowadays. Add a high vertical display resolution that allows for lots of entries, and there arises the necessity for visual grouping. Simple separator lines would be ideal. Though a tree-like structure (bug 161028) has its advantages, too, it is too space-consuming for bigger lists.
Yes, I've been dreaming about this one for a while. Some default seperators (as in original report) and user-defined optional insertable seperators would be wonderful.
BR 212829 is actually more refined, so I'll close this one as duplicate of the newer one. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 212829 ***
I totally disagree with the decision to mark this bug report as a duplicate of bug 212829. * The motivations are different * The solutions are different (and in some way) completely opposite * Different is the reaction of the community This proposal is simple and precise and the solution is simple too. Bug 212829 is not the proposal i voted for and i am not interested in voting for it, please reconsider your decision.
Well, implementation wise I've to pick one anyway, I can't really go for both. My idea being that 212829 is actually more general it is a better compromise to pick it compared to this one. Sorry if you don't see it as such...

I think the way this proposal has been closed by declaring it as duplicate is disrespectful and arbitrary. A wishlist bug has two main points: 1) The subject of the request 2) the proposed solution Two wishlist bugs are the same when both these points are the same. In this case only the first point is the same, while the proposed solutions are different. From the comments it looks like the solution proposed in bug 212829 is not welcome by the community for space and simplicity issues. Since the two proposals are not the same, by declaring this as a duplicate, you are arbitrarily deleting my proposal without an equivalent in bug 212829 (i do not like the solution in bug 212829). For respect of who filed the wishlist, of who commented it and proposed solutions, please, reconsider your choice, listen the community...
Separators could be added between groups even when they have expandable items.

As of KDE Frameworks 5.40 and Dolphin 18.04, there are now automatic groups ("Places", "Remote", "Devices", "Removable Devices", etc.). Let's leave this open for the requested feature for adding separators.

This feature would be very nice indeed
Bug 309620 is not really a duplicate, because it was requesting multiple groups (with a new header title), while this ticket requests a simple separator line (within Places in a group).
i want to bring this theme back. this defenetly needs attention. i am waiting for this feature since i discovered and started to love KDE. some ability to add seperators or custom headlines into the places - bookmarks bar would be great. to clean up the bookmark mess i do this right now: add a new entry and name it ----------------------- . i created a blank icon with an online icon editor and the path aims to an empty folder in my home. boring solution, but it does its job. so please add a funktionality to add seperators. dolphin is so highly customizable. this one is the missing piece.
I also would love to see this feature in Dolphin. With the automatically-sorted sections (Places, Remote, Recent, Search For, Devices) it would be extremely helpful to be able to separate out those from my manually-added locations. For example, manually added locations are by default below the trash bin. I do not want to mis-click and drag things into the trash bin. It would be awesome to add a little line (like OSX does around important/powerful clicks) to help me not mess it up. Thank you.
I'd really like the option to create my own categories in Dolphin also. It's a small issue but it really helps with organization.
Another option would be to group links like bookmarks in browsers that be collapsed and expanded. Consider the following: Group "Local Folders" / /home/MyName /home/MyName/SomeDirName Group "Remote Mounts" remote:/ActiveData-RW remote:/StaticData-RW
This request is almost as old as me. It would be really nice to have this. It's a simple thing, but would really help organize files. I would even make a PR for this, but c++ with all it's issues isn't my thing.
