Description Andrew Horvath 2019-02-08 17:04:47 UTC
SUMMARY
Double-clicking desktop items in Desktop Folder view does not activate them unless there is an open window visible on the screen (not minimized).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Require double-click to activate items
2. Set desktop to folder view
3. Place an item on the desktop
4. Minimize or close all windows
5. Double click an item on the desktop

OBSERVED RESULT
The item does not open.

EXPECTED RESULT
The item should open.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon
KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.54.0
Qt Version: 5.12.0
Proprietary NVIDIA Driver 415.27

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Single click works even with all windows minimized. Double click works if windows are open.

Works for me with those Steps to Reproduce FWIW.

OK, I actually can reproduce this now, but only in Neon, not on my Manjaro system with the same versions. Weird.

Basically, when using the double-click setting, after all windows are minimized, if I double-click on a folder view item on the desktop, the first click selects it, but the second click does nothing. If I de-minimize even one window, everything works again.

Very odd indeed.

Also seeing this in Neon, pretty sure it only started a few days ago. I can't find anything in the logs and whilst "~/.xsession-errors" shows errors, they don't appear to correlate with this behaviour.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Neon, fully updated as of this post
KDE Plasma 5.14.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.55.0
Qt Version: 5
Comment 5 francisco_t 2019-02-12 18:22:56 UTC
Same problem only with neon in two different computers (Nvidia and AMD).

Upgrading to 5.15.0 did not fix the problem.

I fill a new bug for your issue: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404432
Comment 13 Nate Graham 2019-02-17 04:20:01 UTC
Possibly caused by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxcb/+bug/1777994.

The fix should be landing in Neon soon; will keep an eye on this.
Comment 14 Nate Graham 2019-02-19 11:32:57 UTC
Yep, fixed by fixing https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxcb/+bug/1777994, which is now fixed in Neon Dev Unstable at least.

We'll work on getting that into mainline Ubuntu packaging itself.
