SUMMARY Digikam's interface is generally designed so the left panel is used to browse pictures, while the right panel is used to view information about the selected picture(s) and edit metadata. For instance, there's a Tags browser on the left, and tags can be edited on the right (under Caption/Tags). There's a Map browser in the left panel, where you can select a map area, and there's a Map view on the right panel that shows you the location of the selected picture(s). You get the idea. I think it would be interesting if a similar feature was available for "People". An extra panel on the right could show the list of faces present on the selected pictures. One step further would be being able to edit those faces from that panel.
About this report, i like the idea, but i dislike the way to a new right side bar tab. We have already a lots of tabs, and it come critical. A suggestion : as face names are typically tags internally, we not to use the Captions tabs and to add a new internal horizontal tab including face tags ? The topic is open. Gilles Caulier
It is true that there are already a lot of panels (for instance, there are three Map panels, and their functionality is redundant in most cases). Adding a horizontal tab in the Caption panel seems like a good idea. Besides, as I already suggested in a feature request a few months ago, I wouldn't mix Tags with People (currently, the "Tags" panel shows both Tags and Face rectangles). I would treat them as completely separate things, as it can cause problems when a Tag and a face rectangle share the same name.
Marc, I set this file as a duplicate of bug #415565 where you can find a mockup. Please continue the thread on #415565 Happy new year Gilles Caulier *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 415565 ***
Hi Gilles, I don't believe it's a duplicate. This wish refers to a panel where people in the selected picture(s) appear in a panel on the right, and in #415565 just considers adding a face as a tag icon automatically.
Right it's not the same topic... Gilles Caulier
This suggestion looks like a subset (added detail) of an earlier suggestion: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=377857 Effectively we are talking about making metadata sidebar with similar usability as in the old Windows Live Photo Gallery https://www.techhive.com/article/201417/digital_focus.html.
