When there are many files, that need to be deleted, it may take some minutes to finish. KIO should display progress information in the system-tray applet when emptying the trash, similar to when copying/moving files.

Created attachment 123542 [details] ping-pong "progress" bar This issue persists. Currently plasma shows a notification with a ping-pong "progress" bar while emptying trash. Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.1 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.63.0 Qt Version: 5.13.1 Kernel Version: 5.3.7-arch1-1-ARCH
Actually this would seem to resolve the issue, no? I don't remember there being a notification at all at some point in the past. Or is the remaining complaint that it should be a steadily-increasing progress bar rather than an indeterminate one?
Ignore my previous comment please. The ping-pong progress bar appears while Dolphin restores files from Trash, not while it empties the Trash. I will open another bug for such issue. A ping-pong "progress" bar gives no real info about the progress of the operation. Sorry for noise.
I think a ping pong animation would be better than having nothing like right now. But it should actually show the progress of emptying trash as it is quite predictable.
Sorry, my screenshot is not related to this issue. Furthermore, obviously while Dolphin restores files from Trash the notification says "Moving", not "Deleting" as we can see in my screenshot. My screenshot shows the progress bar that sometimes appears when I delete permanently (shift+del) a folder containing many files and sub-folders (a folder containing the source code of kwin with 1,435 files and 268 sub-folders, for example). Such notification is inconsistent because it never appears when I delete permanently thousands of jpg files or a single big (6.7 GiB) file, for example. This annoying inconsistency was already reported as bug 391590. Still no progress when emptying Trash. :(
