Created attachment 113965 [details]
dolphin window and file properties dialog

Dolphin cannot display SVG/SVGZ icons assigned to a given mimetype, but rather displays the 'unknown' mimetype icon, while the file icon is correctly displayed in the properties dialog (see attachment).

On the other hand dolphin has no problem in displaying the preview of svg/svgz files (i.e. the folder containing the icon files).

Of course, if I choose a PNG image as mimetype icon, Dolphin displays it correctly (like the *.fcd mimetype in the screenshot).

Could be a duplicate of bug 368951, but it only mentions folder icons.

Thanks for the report, are you able to confirm if this issue is still persisting, thanks.

I realized that both plain and inkscape svg/svgz icons work as soon as I put them in a standard subdirectory (e.g. places or mimetypes, etc.) in ~/.local/share/icons/hicolor/scalable.

If those same icons are in another path (e.g. ~/images/icons) they do not work. If those same icons are converted in png format (and probably other formats too) then they work from any path.

That happens both in kubuntu 18.04 and 20.04.1
