Typically, in an appartment, the list of wireless networks is huge. I touwl be useful to have a search field on the top of the list in the NetworkManager applet to filter the wireless networks available
There might be a long list, but those you use are at the top usually.
I am sorry to reopen this, but I have a new use case. I have added a vpn connection. The networks are listed in alphabetical order and the vpn connection, although already used in the past, follows this ordering. My connection starts with 'U' and as such shows really down the list. Having a search field that is prefocused when opening the network list would allow for a really powerful workflow: - Hit shortcut for network manager applet (in my case Meta+Shift+N) - Type the name of the target network until it is the first in the list - Hit enter to connect. Right now, you have to use the mouse to connect.

Search field will be in Plasma 5.16.
