Description dkj 2002-02-14 15:18:15 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 2.9.2
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I would need a feature to get a reminder on an email after some days or on a special date. This should be possible with received mails as well was with sent mails. You very much need this with projects an customer contacts in business environments.

(Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
(Called from KBugReport dialog. Fields Application KDE Version OS Compiler manually changed)

As kmail is an email application and no pim I doubt that this'll be=20
implemented. Any other opinions on this?

I agree that it shouldn't be directly implemented in KMail. But we=20
could set an alarm in KOrganizer. KOrganizer then should probably have=20
an option to run a command e.g. 'kmail -replyto <internal_msgid>' if=20
the alarm is triggered. Maybe that's already possible. Or probably the=20
alarm daemon could be extended to be usable from other applications=20
than KOrganizer.
I cc the KDE-PIM guys. They should know the best way to implement this.

Ingo

Well at least it's a call for closer KMail/KOrganizer integration (or=20
teamwork if you like that better).
Maybe an feature to tell KMail to send an already composed message at a=20
given time would match this wish? That could be implemented in KMail=20
though for that to work a KDE-atd infrastructure needs to be in place.

The alarm daemon already is usable by other applications. Currently
KOrganizer and KAlarm use it. You control the daemon via DCOP and you can
register clients which are called when an alarm is due.

I have to agree with the original suggestion. I often get e-mail that I find
interesting or requires action on my part but I just don't have time to
deal with it right not. Now if I could get a reminder in say a week that
I need to deal with a particular message I could be much more organized.
Software is a tool and tools should be as versitile as possible. Thus the
overwelmingly widespread use of the screwdriver... <grin>

Just my $.02

I would love that too. All that is needed is a right click option to schedule
it to kalarm or kdepim... It would even extend the KDE integration that makes
it so easy to use.
Thanks to all

Not a duplicate of Bug #46136, which needs to be reopened.
Please resolve as FIXED instead, possibly blocking Bug #46136 in order to retrospectively improve semantic relations. Thanks.
