Description lawrencelile@gmail.com 2017-04-18 02:43:15 UTC
There is no cursor in the timeline. I've installed, de-installed, and reinstalled from the KDE PPA's, same result. This happens as soon as I open the program. Clicking on a point in the timeline, and pressing "play" in the clip monitor does not change the playback position - it continues playing where it was before.

Using kdenlive Version 16.12.3 Using:
KDE Frameworks 5.18.0
Qt 5.5.1 (built against 5.5.1)
The xcb windowing system

Ubuntu 16.04, I am running ubuntu 16.04, Nvidia driver 340.12, X server 11.0, Quadro NVS 290 video card

Similar to bug 366798 which was marked as resolved. There are others posting about this issue in the kdenlive forums, so I do not believe it was resolved.

Fine for me with default installation:
. UbuntuStudio 17.04 amd64 (XFCE)
. Kdenlive 16.12.3
. KDE Frameworks 5.31.0
. Qt 5.7.1 (built against 5.7.1)
. The xcb windowing system
. X.Org X Server 1.19.3
. X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
but:
. Radeon HD 5450 asus graphic card with native opensource linux drivers.

Have your got a builtin graphic card on your motherboard? If yes, could you try removing your video card and connecting your display to your motherboard card, just for testing purpose?

Hi, you are using a very old version of Kdenlive, please update. Here is how to get the latest version on most distros: https://kdenlive.org/download/

Start of timeline in Kdenlive

I clicked the cursor on the timeline and between 10 and 20 seconds you see this small grey line, but below it is no cursor. In the preview screen the time does also not change to the point in time where I clicked.

Please give information on which version of Kdenlive and MLT you are using...

Thank you very much for working on this.

I am using MLT version 6.5.0

I am trying to reproduce the behavior. I am unable to make the program add
a file to any video or audio track. Currently, I am unable to get Kdenlive
to accept dragging and dropping, and this may be a problem involving more
programs than just this one. The lack of this ability makes Kdenlive
essentially unusable, but is not a fault of the program itself. I believe
it to be a general problem on my machine, not a specific problem with
Kdenlinve. I have been unable to find a solution to the general problem.

I am unable to help in reproducing the problem at this time as I cannot get
the program to do the most basic functions. Thank you for your efforts to
deal with this problem. It may be that your efforts should be directed
elsewhere. Currently I am unable to get any functionality out of Kdenlive
at all.

As an answer to comment 4 I can say it is happening with multiple versions of 16.x and 17.x
It's not just one version. Older versions don't seem to have this but suddenly this bug was introduced and never left. I now have 17.11.70.r9142, still there.
It makes the program unusable, there is no way to edit a movie.
I use it on Manjaro Linux 17.06 with KDE desktop.

Honestly I don't know why this is happening. I am on arch and don't have this issue. Try using the AppImage version from here:

http://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-17.08.3-x86_64.AppImage

Notice the instructions:
"Just download the file and make it executable, ( chmod +x ) in a terminal, then run it. On Arch linux and derivatives, you need to install libselinux from AUR to run the AppImage."
Comment 8 farid 2017-11-28 20:08:52 UTC
So this happens if you set the thread greater than 1, right? As stated in the warning this is an experimental feature so don't use it for production.

Please try with the actual Kdenlive AppImage version 18.08.2
Run the Appimage from the terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T). Move to the AppImage folder and run the .AppImage: ./Kdenlive*.AppImage
Comment 10 emohr 2019-01-12 16:12:18 UTC
It seems it was a matter of thread greater than 1.

We closed this bug. If it still appears in the latest version, please feel free to re-open it and update the affected version number.
