In previous version of KDE it was possible to group certain applications in the panel (eg firefox) while some others went ungrouped (ge konsole). I thin this was a panel option and could be turned on/off by right clicking the icons in the task bar. in kde5 this very useful feature has gone - please bring it back!
You can right click an application and in "More Actions" there's an "Allow grouping this application" that you can uncheck. Since Plasma 5.10 there's also an option to do this by middle-clicking the application.

If it's missing it means you disabled grouping.
