Description mike.h.gentry 2016-10-16 12:32:05 UTC
I have a secondary monitor above my laptop (Thinkpad X201t)'s inbuilt display.

I have two Application Launchers, one which behaves correctly on a panel at the top of the top screen, and one which doesn't on a panel on the bottom of the bottom screen. I've tried adjusting the visibility settings on the bottom panel, and moving the Launcher around within the panel, with no apparent effect.

Whether I click the button on the bottom panel or hit the meta key, the Application Launcher opens at the midpoint of the baseline of the top screen.

This looks similar, but I'm seeing this immediately after logging in, and on a different screen rather than just misplaced: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368373

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Attach external monitor
2. Start KDE
3. Open Application Launcher by clicking on default panel's button on bottom display or hitting meta key

Actual Results:
Launcher opens at midpoint of baseline of top monitor.

Expected Results:
Launcher opens on bottom display near button.

Setting this to minor as it seems like it's fairly specific to my setup. Will try to find any other factors that influence this, (e.g. have a go with different DMs, and a Live USB) but haven't had any luck so far.

Submenu opens on wrong screen, Plasma 5.8

I've subsequently noticed this happening too. If I open a menu (whether from the panel or the desktop) on the right hand edge of the top monitor, and it has a submenu which would appear partly outside the monitor if it appeared to the right of the parent menu, it'll appear on the inbuilt laptop screen instead. Menus anywhere else on either screen don't seem to be affected.

Should I open a separate bug, or wait to see if it turns out to be the same underlying cause?

A clarification to the above: when I said 'moving the launcher icon on the panel had no effect' I misspoke - as you can probably guess from the screenshot, the launcher appears as close as it can to the right spot, but on the wrong screen. This holds true however I arrange my screens.

Also, I tried switching to SDDM, but that didn't change anything. I'll try a Live USB when I get a moment later.

Newly created user accounts don't show the problem. I really thought I'd checked that already (maybe I did, but before recent updates?)

At any rate, I think it's probably safe to close this on the assumption that it's some kind of cruft in my dotfiles (the user account is at least 6 years old), and won't be reproducible.

If you want any further information please ask, and sorry for wasting your time.
