(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kate
Version: KDE 2.9.1 CVS/CVSup/Snapshot
Severity: normal
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

The text is rendered correctly only if one presses enter. Highlighting text and cursor movement are the reverse of what they should be. In fact the cursor moves from left to right as usual and the although the text goes from right to left it does so starting from the left side of the page (it should be from the right). Also there are rendering problems caused by moving the cursor around which causes the letters to be rendered as if they are standing alone instead of being shaped according to their position in the text. These problems are also exhibited by the Advanced Editor. KEdit is a good example of how the text should really be rendered and dealt with when using Arabic or other BIDI languages.

Thanks
Hesham Hassan
