On Dolphin 14.12.3 (KDE 4.14.6) with Plasma 5, if I want to add a new place accessed via sftp, it does not get added. Two things :

- If I enter the adress in Dolphin's URL bar, and then in the window, click "Add to places", it simply does not appear in the Places.
- If I right click Places and "add a new place", it gets added, but then if I close Dolphin, and reopen it, it's gone.

Thanks for the bug report!
I can't reproduce the problem in 14.12.3, tested with smb and sftp Places.

Can you please try to add the sftp place via the Open File Dialog (e.g. in Kate)?

I didn't have the latest kdelibs installed, after upgrading to kdelibs 4.14.6 I can reproduce the problem, but with all kind of places (see bug 345174)
