After that crash, KMail does not come up but hangs in background.
After launching 'akonadictl restart' it comes up immediately.
The folder I wanted to delete initially is still there in the Local Folders resource.

Problem cannot be reproduced any longer in Kontact 5.0.1 / KDE Applications 15.08.1.
