- What I was doing when the application crashed:
I closed Kontact and started it anew - and it crashed quickly after being restarted.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

Before I restarted Kontact:
1) Akonadi did not deliver an email from my outbox. Selecting ~"deliver outbox" from the rightclick menu of that mailbox had no effect.
2) Kontact showed "Mail Filter Agent" in the progress information in the low right corner.

After restarting:
3) Kontact showed a message similar to "there was an error in the email application, trying to aquire a lock", just before it crashed.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.
