I just want to add that (the still unreleased) openSUSE 13.1 contains an older apper version (0.8.0 with some patches from git).
Apper version 0.8.1 slightly missed the deadline unfortunately, but will be released as online update as soon as possible (hopefully even before the official release of oS 13.1).
In my personal experience those crashes seem to be gone in 0.8.1 (at least I didn't see one since I installed that nearly 2 weeks ago, whereas I have seen them a lot with 0.8.0).

So I guess this bug report should be just closed for now.

If you still experience the crashes with apper 0.8.1 when it is released for oS 13.1, please reopen the bug.

Wolfgang, looks like it missed the deadline. Is there an URL available which tracks the downstream issue?
Comment 12 Wolfgang Bauer 2013-11-21 23:03:58 UTC
Apper 0.8.1 _is_ available in the official update repo already since Monday. For direct inclusion in 13.1 the deadline was missed, yes, as I already wrote.

There's no specific downstream bug for the crashes, the 0.8.1 update was handled in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=802960 though.
Comment 13 Christoph Feck 2013-11-21 23:25:03 UTC
Actually, bug 327917 says it's using 0.8.1 version, reopening.

So was this your first update on a newly installed/upgraded 13.1?

As written above, you should have gotten Apper 0.8.1 with that update, which should not crash anymore.
Comment 20 oraclejmt 2013-11-29 16:50:22 UTC
Yes, it was my first update, right after a clean install on OpenSUSE 13.1.

OK, I'm going to close this bug then again.

As I said, you should have Apper 0.8.1 now, which shouldn't crash.

If you do still experience crashes, please feel free to reopen this bug report or file a new one.
Thank you!

sorry for reopening, but I failed to read all the comments to learn it is probably already fixed now for my suse13.1 when the 371 updates get installed.
Software Updater anyway is becoming useless since you can't see WHAT you're going to update, in this tiny window

OK, please reopen (or maybe better open a new bug report) if you still see crashes.

You can resize the popup window by dragging at the corners.

Or you can also disable the "Software Updates" plasmoid in the System Tray Settings (reachable via right-clicking f.e. on the small up-arrow just left if the digital clock).
Then it should behave the same as in openSUSE 12.3, i.e. you get a notification of the updates and clicking on "Review" will open the full Apper window.
