With kde 4.11 and 4.11.1. I want emacs to be the default application to open .xml files. I have to suppress any other application in the mymetype list to have .xml files to be open by emacs. Or I want emacs to be the second application in the mimetype list to open .tex files. It doesn't work. This has appeared with Kde 4.11. I have the same problem with three computer with opensuse 12.3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Click edit mime type on an .xml file 2. Choose emacs as default application 3. Click ok Actual Results: Emacs ist at the end of the list Expected Results: When clicking on any .xml files emacs opens it
Are you sure you have the same bug with 4.11.1? See also bug 321706.
The situation has changed with kde 4.11.1. I can edit the filetype and default applications, tou are right. But, if I click on a file it doesn't change... I have a lot of .xml files. I can now edit the default application BUT they are identified as html files and the navigator open them. A file .exl (a kind of .cvs) is theoretically opened with libreoffice, but if I click on it, a pop-up windows asks me if I want to download an application to download it.

Thanks a lot for your quick answer. Ok for .exl files. For .xml files, some are opened with konqueror, others with emacs and others a popup window asks me for an application. Editing the file association does not change anything. It is maybe a problem with opensuse 12.3. It did not occur with kde 4.10.
