Description NMD 2013-07-24 13:04:39 UTC
When initially adding a printer within KDE settings it allows you to add a username and password (this is important where it requires a different username and password to the local user's - as it might for printing on a work or university network from a laptop).

However, there appears to be no way to modify the username/password for the printer after the initial creation, or to add a username and password to a printer later. It would be great if something could be implemented to allow changing of these settings later. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Go to the printers control module 2.Click on a previously configured printer and press configure Actual Results: 3.There appears to be no way to add/change username and password Expected Results: Username/ password boxes should be available allowing modification.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to the printers control module
2.Click on a previously configured printer and press configure

Actual Results:
3.There appears to be no way to add/change username and password after initial setup (whereas there as during setup -

Expected Results:
Username/ password boxes should be available allowing modification.

There is a box in the initial KDE printer setup which allows you to add these username and passwords (Add printer > windows printer via samba, and see under authentication).

I initially created this bug here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322394 but because of misunderstanding it got closed before the issue had been understood/resolved.

I have no printers configured in my system so I can't help you much, but I guess this bug should be marked as whislist.

I found a workaround for this bug:

Ok, now I understood your question, I'm not exactly sure one can change the device URI, can you do this change on CUPS web interface http://localhost:631 ?
Comment 5 Daniel Nicoletti 2017-10-17 13:00:52 UTC
Oh and that workaround is for an old KDE tool, might work for print-manager too but I can't remember :)

No, I didn't find a way to do it with CUPS. However, gnome printer manager has this feature.(In reply to Daniel Nicoletti from comment #5)
