There is no difference between backlog and messages you have just received, for example:

In that image there are 3 different conversations:
-The first line belongs to a conversation (A)
-The following two lines are another conversation (B)
-The fourth line belongs to another conversation (C)
-The blue reply is only for conversation C.

What I'm proposing is to add some kind of separator (perhaps with the date?) between backlog and the current conversation.
