(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kmail Version: KMail 1.2 (using KDE 2.1.2 ) Severity: normal Installed from: Debian Packages Compiler: Not Specified OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified E-mails with attached files in BinHex 4.0 format do not get decoded by KMail. When I save such an attachment in the local file system it still has a line like "(This file must be converted with BinHex 4.0)" in it. In my special case the attachment was a PDF file which could not be read by Acroread 4.0 due to this BinHex encoding. The same attached PDF document could be read without problems with a MS Outlook/Acroread 4.0 combination. BinHex seems to be a prefered encoding scheme for MacOS e-mail clients. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org) (Called from KBugReport dialog. Fields Application KDE Version OS Compiler manually changed)
I confirm this wish. This feature is still not present in kmail 1.4.3 (I have still not tested the latest version). This is a real problem when receiving attachments from Mac users with Eudora.
I have forgotten to add that this automatic conversion of Mac/Binhex files does exist in mozilla mail. I can send an example file in attachment if necessary.
Subject: Re: E-Mail Attachments in BinHex Format Please send a small example to 32047@bugs.kde.org. Furthermore please send us a link or a description of the BinHex format.

Subject: binhex attachments Here is an example of Binhex attachment. This is an rtf file encode with Binhex. Created an attachment (id=834) Enseignements,_RTF
I have sent an example file (rtf file encoded with Binhex). You can find a similar discussion of the Binhex encoding in the evolution bugzilla : http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17218 Usually ,I decode these Binhex files with the hexbin command : hexbin -U file This hexbin commande is located in the "macutils" package, available for most of the distributions (Mandrake, RH, debian, PLD, ...). This package has a GPL style licence. Google "binhex format" send : http://www.macdisk.com/binhexen.php3 I don't know more on the binhex format.

I can confirm that this feature is still desired -- I occasionally get binhex attachments which I'm unable to decode directly in KMail. However, I note that there is a bin->hex and hex->bin converter available as part of the macutils package. I can't find a home page for this package, but it's available with many common GNU/Linux distributions. I don't know how it's licenced, but if it's GPL-compatible, then I'm sure it would be a simple matter to integrate it into KMail. Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented. Thank you for your understanding.
Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
