Description Janet 2013-05-04 14:15:39 UTC
I have activated the desktop switch on-screen display, text only, no layout indicators. It was fine in KDE SC 4.9 but since 4.10 it shows no text anymore, it is just a tiny empty frame. If I have 3 or 4 virtual desktops I can switch as long as I want between them, the on-screen display always is empty. When I have 5 virtual desktops the text appears when I switch to a third desktop the second time (but i can switch between 2 desktops as long as I want without having text in the on-screen display). When I only have 2 virtual desktops the text appears after I switch to the second desktop (no text) and back to the first.

It doesn't matter if I use the mouse wheel to switch or click on the desktop switch plasmoid and the order of the activated desktops also doesn't matter. And it is independent from the used plasma theme (tested with air, oxygen and some others I got from kde-look.org) and the user.

My desktops have the default German names "Arbeitsfläche 1", "Arbeitsfläche 2" and so on.

And now I do some real magic: I rename one virtual desktop to "Arbeitsflaeche" or "Desk" - something without umlaut... and suddenly it works, the text appears in the on-screen display when you reach the no-umlaut desktop. So when all desktops have a name without umlaut it works right from the login as expected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Rename your virtual desktops to "Arbeitsfläche".
2. Activate the on-screen display, text only.
3. Log out and back in and switch virtual desktops - on-screen display is an empty frame
4. Rename virtual desktops, e.g. just delete the "ä" in the name - and it works.

Virtual Desktop OSD is a KWin thing. Re-assigning.
