on arch linux 64bit fully updated, I can't play audio cds in amarok, kscd with phonon-vlc backend.
clementine, based on gstreamer, can. vlc can as well.
amarok crashes if media is played from menu. 
when launched from device-noifier widget, sometimes it sees an empty audio cd, sometimes it sees nothing.
kscd displays cd content, but doesn't play it.
