Description DrSlony 2013-02-12 00:35:09 UTC
After waiting 90 seconds for the Import window to display all 2052 photos on a memory card, I clicked "Download all". The window froze. I Alt+Tabbed to the digiKam window, it too was frozen. After 100 seconds it unfroze for a second and created 14 folders. Then it froze again, and 3 minutes later unfroze to show me the download progress.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get a modern memory card, e.g. 32GB
2. Shoot a lot of raw photos. I have 2052 photos spread out over 14 folders (1 folder = 1 day)
3. Import.
Actual Results:
Freeze for over a minute, unfreeze for a second, freeze again for about 3 minutes.

Expected Results:
No freezing, immediate progress report.

Loaded some 3,5GB of images from a memory card without a freeze in current master. Do you mind retesting this when the next release comes up?
Comment 2 DrSlony 2014-01-02 10:08:26 UTC
Of course I will. I'm on 3.5.0 now. Two patches were committed the other day, perhaps they addressed this too.
Comment 3 Teemu Rytilahti 2014-01-02 10:42:22 UTC
Could be, could be something else too. Anyway, there's a lot of changes in the upcoming 4.0 release which may be related to this, so if possible please test before the final release.

digiKam 4.0.0 is out. Please check if this file still reproducible on your computer

Thanks in advance

I confirm the fix, no freezing, however I still had to wait for all thumbs to be displayed before I could click "download/delete all" which is a big waste of time. digikam-4.0.0 and kipi-plugins-3.5.0

To respond to DrSonly from Comment #5 :

The "wait for all thumbs" is a problem reported to bug #314952

The original problem sound like fixed now.

Screencast of problem in 4.2.0

Hi

This issue is not 100% fixed in 4.2.0. While there is no freezing, the menu entries are not always clickable.

I have 1192 photos on my SD card. When I open the Import window it immediately fills up with thumbnail placeholders while the thumbs are being generated. Now if I click on the "Image" menu the items are active, I can press them. So far so good. If you are following the steps to reproduce, close the Import window.

Open the Import window again ("Import > Card Readers > SD/MMC Card Reader etc"). Now as soon as the thumbnail placeholders appear, scroll down! Now when I click on the Image menu, for a second the items are clickable, but then they get disabled. They remain disabled until some thumbs are generated, but I couldn't figure out which ones.

I have attached a screencast of the problem, it is standard VP8 and so should play in any modern browser (Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Chromium) or mpv/mplayer/vlc etc.

Would you like me to open this as a new issue?
Comment 9 DrSlony 2014-09-01 13:13:12 UTC
In fact I'll do that as the original issue is fixed.
