I have 1192 photos on my SD card. When I open the Import window it immediately fills up with thumbnail placeholders while the thumbs are being generated. If I click on the "Image" menu the items are active, I can press them. So far so good. If you are following the steps to reproduce, close the Import window. Open the Import window again ("Import > Card Readers > SD/MMC Card Reader etc"). Now as soon as the thumbnail placeholders appear, scroll down! Now when I click on the Image menu, for a second the items are clickable, but then they become disabled. They remain disabled until some thumbs are generated, but I couldn't figure out which ones. I have attached a screencast of the problem, it is standard VP8 and so should play in any modern browser (Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Chromium) or mpv/mplayer/vlc etc. Reproducible: Always

Still in 4.9.0.
The problem is not reproducible at the moment with me. Is the problem with a source other than card reader reproducible? Maik
I don't have other sources to test on.
digiKam 4.12.0 is out. https://www.digikam.org/node/741 Problem still reproducible ? Maik
Please don't feel that I'm ignoring you, I just haven't had enough photos on the SD card yet to give a reliable answer...
This file still valid using digiKam 5.0.0 ? Gilles Caulier
Cannot reproduce in 5.0.0 (92997d9c6c589e044ab77c3ca1e726627ae2e0a3).
I was wrong. Just imported a new batch of photos, about 250 on an SD card. Clicked Import > Card readers > SD Scrolled down straight away. The Item menu became disabled until the off-screen thumbnails loaded. Luckily it didn't take very long, loading of thumbs is faster, but I still see no reason for it to be disabled, it is still wasted time.
This problem still reproducible using last DK 5.4.0 bundle ? https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BzeiVr-byqt5Y0tIRWVWlRJenM Gilles Caulier
