Description kleshas 2013-02-06 05:52:32 UTC
Knotes app has no notes available. The config of each note is still in /home/user/.kde/share/apps/knotes

Reproducible: Always

Same problem with KDE 4.10. The data is impossible to access, I kept all the backups but I really would like to have my data back. Simply moving the folder $HOME/.kde/share/apps/knotes/ (for example if one wants to start with a fresh $HOME/.kde/ on a major update) causes the data to become totally inaccessible, even when moved back to it's original location.

This problem exists since several KDE versions, I already lost previous notes, that happened on nearly every major KDE upgrade since 4.7, moving the data folder makes the content impossible to access. I kept all the backups but I really don't have a clue on how to get that data back.

I must say I didn't notice a problem when going from KDE SC 4.10.5 to 4.11.0. Currently running 4.11.2

So it was when you migrate from kdepim < kdepim-akonadi ?
Comment 7 Myriam Schweingruber 2013-10-14 09:06:05 UTC
No, absolutely not, when I upgraded to KDE SC 4.10. I think Akonadi was already in way before that.
Comment 8 Laurent Montel 2013-10-14 09:19:47 UTC
wierd because knotes was not modify after 2007...
Ok will investigate.

Maybe I could join this bug instead of creating the new one.
Some 3-6 months ago big update to KDE environment was released under Debian testing. Since then when starting desktop, always window appears stating migration of notes (I think paths there contains aconadi word). The window closes after a while on itself.
I was suspicious that notes does not work properly (I use to generate one automatically on important mail arrival - and none appeared during this period, but seems no notify-worth mail as well).
However today I found KNotes icon in the Quick bar and after opening notes from it (two older notifications were inside) I was not able to get rid of them. Simply no "delete" option was in the popup menu.
After quiting the KNotes completely now I am again not able to get KNotes visible in the Quick bar, not even after opening the hidden icons popup. However "ps -a | grep notes" shows one knote process active in the same time.
If you are investigating around this migration application, I am willing to help (at least as the guinea pig ;-) ). Please let me know, whether and what kind of information would be helpful, eventually if I should open separate bug for this behaviour.
Thanks in advance.

knotes was not migrate to akonadi :)
Don't use it.
Just we copied notes contents to akonadi to be use in kjots.
But knotes still use old kresource.
(Ok will port to akonadi in 4.13)

killall knotes && knotes and look at if you can use it.

Send screenshot about your desktop to show pb please.
