Description apache 2012-08-05 17:29:46 UTC
Please, add icons to window miniatures in workspace view shown with active screen edge actions. While switching windows with Alt+tab I can have icons on windows miniatures. I wish to have the same while using active screen edge for relocating windows between workspaces. When I have several workspaces windows miniatures are very small. Icons could help to recognize them and manage windows more easily.
I can also suggest that the icons could be even bigger than with Alt+tab view.

Reproducible: Always

Sorry. I was referring to "Present windows" effect, where there is option "Display window icon", and "Toggle Present Windows (Current desktop)", which is by default run with Ctrl+F9. With all "Present windows" effects icons can be displayed, so I wish it was possible for "Active Screen Edge Actions" Desktop Grid.

If possible add also "Display window titles" to "Active Screen Edge Actions" Desktop Grid, please.

These are the basic options that could help to recognize which windows represent which application in Desktop Grid, because when there are many windows open usually window's miniatures are becoming small and hardly recognizable.

Please make it happen soon. :)

Desktop Grid effect and Present Windows are for different tasks.

* Present Windows: switch windows
* Desktop Grid: switch desktops

Given the different use cases I do not see why Desktop Grid should get all the (distracting) features from Present Windows. While Desktop Grid allows to have the windows arranged like in Present Windows this is not primarily meant for switching windows, but for recognizing your desktop and allowing you to organize windows between the desktops.

If you just want to activate a given window the Present Windows effect is just the better choice.

Maybe these effects were meant to be for different task but it doesn't need to be the case any longer. :)
Present Windows is also useful but I prefer Desktop Grid because it gives me a clear view of the situation. The point is that switching windows and relocating them could be one activity - activated with one movement of mouse or shortcut. Seems to me that this would be more simple and comfortable than separating swithing windows and organizing them into two activities. Besides I close and open both windows and applications and relocate them frequently while working. Using one feature would be much comfortable for me.

KDE is famous for its configurability and I'd like to be able to use it maybe in a non-standard way. Consider it as a step forward to simplicity and configurability. It could give more choice to users over how they work.

So, please could you add at least icons in Desktop Grid view? Even considering Desktop Grid as primarily meant for recognizing desktop and allowing to organize windows between the desktops - the task of organizing windows will be much easier with icons because when there are a lot of windows open on each virtual desktop windows become very small, especially on small monitors, and it becomes hard to recognize the content of the windows.

I attached an example of how bad it looks and how bad it is to manage windows - drug and drop to another desktop, when it is hard to recognize what application each window represent.
"Present windows - all desktops" as "Active screen edge action" is not the same idea I proposed because user cannot move window to another desktop.
This useability of Desktop Grid could be really enhanced if you could only understand that the way you work is not the way others want to work. Please reconsider this again because I am not sure if you understood me correctly.
