Description Michał Walenciak 2012-04-04 17:27:25 UTC
I've set a few task in my kalendar and set a remaind option.
It was set to remind a few days before task.

None of alarms has been launched.
Comment 1 David Jarvie 2012-04-04 21:01:32 UTC
What version of KDE and KAlarm are you running?

Please describe exactly which options you set for the alarm, and what values you entered. If possible, attach your calendar file, probably ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/calendar.ics.

My KDE and KAlarm/KOrganizer: 4.8.1, 4.8.0

What I do:
on calendar -> RMB -> new event:
any title, any localization, "takes the whole day usually selected", any date.
In "Reminder" tab i choose lets say "1 days before start" + "2 days before" and + "5 days before".
In "Recurrence" i choose "monthly"

I'm supposed to get 5 days before a reminder, but i don't get any.

It seems, that notifications are launched *only* when the difference between supposed notification and event is *exactly* as user specified.

So if I have a meeting wednesday morning, and i've set notification "one day before", I won't gent any notification if I turn on my computer at tuesday evening.
That's not what's expected.
Comment 5 David Jarvie 2012-04-09 20:40:14 UTC
This seems to be a KOrganizer bug, not KAlarm.
Comment 6 Michał Walenciak 2012-04-10 16:07:28 UTC
sorry, i don't recognize which one is which one ;)

openSUSE 12.2 x86_64 / KDE 4.9.2

Same with Birthdays and Anniversaries.
If you set the reminder to 1 day before, you get a reminder exactly 24 hours before.
If you login only 23 hours and 59 minutes before the event, you will never get a reminder.
BIG BAD bug I nearly missed my wife's birthday ;-)

I think this also belongs to it:
If you suspend a reminder - i.e. remind me again in 1 hour - no reminder pops up again.

Just wanted to chime in and confirm this problem (Kontact / KOrganizer 4.8.5). The notification daemon does not show reminders of events that:

- begin in the past
- are still ongoing
- have not triggered a notification, yet

This is especially a problem with all-day events. I never get notified about them. I have multiple different calendar sources. One is run on ownCloud (CalDAV), a local one and a Google calendar. All of them have the same problem.

Here's the same. I set up kubuntu 12.04 with backports-PPA and running KDE 4.10.1

KOrganizer Version 4.10.1

But i had this issue with any Versions before (example: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdepim/+bug/488251). After a cuple of Months, it suddenly works.

For Birthday-Remindings it seems to be, that it works after a turn of a year. So in my actually case since january 2013 the birthdays are shown as aspected. This behavior i noticed in earlier Versions too

But other Calendar-events are actually not shown.

Some other people have the same problem and are not satisfied with this situation and turned to other applications.

I debug akonadi with akonadikonsole and checked the events but i found nothing wrong. Maybe i am not experienced at all to that.

There were several fixes made for the reminders in KDE 4.10. Reminders should work a lot better since that version. Reminders were very buggy in KDE 4.8.x. Suggest upgrading as soon as you can to at least KDE 4.10.

If reminder problems still happen in KDE 4.10.0 and above, we need to know very specific details of how/when they fail.

Today I tested a bit with KDE 4.10.1 on openSUSE 12.3 x86_64, with my Kolab-Calendar.

Birthdays & Anniversaries (see also comment #7):
Logged in BEFORE the reminder should pop up:
- B&A reminder is working.
- Rescheduling (suspending) the reminder for a few hours is working.
- Disabling the reminder is working.
Logged in AFTER the reminder should pop up:
- B&A reminder is working.
- Rescheduling (suspending) the reminder for a few hours is working.
- Disabling the reminder is working.

Appointments:
Logged in BEFORE the reminder should pop up:
- Appointment reminder is working.
- Rescheduling (suspending) the reminder for a few minutes is working.
- Disabling the reminder is working.
Logged in AFTER the reminder should pop up:
- Appointment reminder is NOT shown.
- Rescheduling (suspending) the reminder not tested.
- Disabling the reminder not tested.
Logged in AFTER the Appointment started:
- Appointment reminder is NOT shown.
- Rescheduling (suspending) the reminder not tested.
- Disabling the reminder not tested.

Tasks-Reminder I didn't test, I will do later on.

It seems that for Appointments the reminder does not look into the past.
But doing so, shared environments - like the Kolab-Calendar - could be a problem then.

Cheers

Tasks-Reminder Test:

Created TestTask01
Start: 2013-03-18 19:00
Due: 2013-03-18 19:45
Reminder:
1. 15 Min. before start
2. 15 Min before due
3. 5 Min. after start
4. 5 Min. after due

I logged into KDE at 18:00.
While I was logged in, all reminders popped up and could be rescheduled and disabled - working.

Created TestTask02
Start: 2013-03-18 20:00
Due: 2013-03-18 20:45
Reminder:
1. 15 Min. before start
2. 15 Min before due
3. 5 Min. after start
4. 5 Min. after due

I Logged into KDE at 20:15.
Only reminder 2 and 4 were shown, rescheduling and disabling of them was working.
Reminder 1 and 3 were not shown - I would expect they should have been shown also.

Hope that help you guys.
Cheers
Regi

I tried reproducing comments 11 and 12 with version 5.17.3.

- event at 9:15, reminder at 9:00, booted at 9:02; reminder _did_ display.
- to-do start at 9:15, due 9:20, reminders at 9:00 and 9:05, booted at 9:02; only the second reminder displayed.
Comment 15 gjditchfield 2022-05-26 02:16:21 UTC
As of version 22.04.0 (5.20.0), korgac has been replaced by a new
reminder daemon, kalendarac. If you have upgraded to that version,
please watch for unreliable reminders and report them as bugs for
product "Reminder Daemon".
