Description Gunter Ohrner 2012-02-16 22:09:54 UTC
Version: 4.8 (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS: Linux

The is exactly the same as bug 289534, but as it appears in a different KDE-version (according to bug 289534 it's supposed to be fixed in 4.7.4, but the fix apparently did not make it into KDE 4.8) I reported it as a new bug instead of reopening the old report.

I got a GPG encrypted mail with looks as follows:
****************************************************************
(...)
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/encrypted; protocol="application/pgp-encrypted";
	boundary="v9Ux+11Zm5mwPlX6"

****************************************************************

After decryption, the ciphertext results in an embedded MIME message, which in
turn contains an attachment.

The embedded message is displayed after decryption, including the attachment
which is shown as a link the message window, but the message structure view
displayed by kMail does not change and the attachment link is not effective,
clicking it is a no-op.

Actually there seems to be no way to save the deencrypted attachment using
kmail2. This worked file with kmail 1.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Receive an exncrypted message structures as described above.

Actual Results:
An attachment is displayed as a link inside the message window, but the link
cannot be opened / downloaded. There does not seem to be any way to view or
save the attachment.

Expected Results:
The link / attachment should be downloadable / saveable.

Was fixed on the KDE 4.7-branch according to bug 289534. Please merge the fix, preferrably before KDE 4.8.1 is released, if it's not already too late...
Comment 1 Kai Maerzhaeuser 2012-03-26 11:55:25 UTC
The bug still exists for me in KDE 4.8.1 (Fedora 16 Package).
Comment 2 Matija Šuklje 2012-04-08 09:29:26 UTC
Persists in 4.8.1 (Gentoo).
Comment 3 Joachim Wilke 2012-04-18 13:03:19 UTC
I can reproduce it with KDE 4.8.2.
Comment 4 Lars 2012-06-24 01:09:21 UTC
Also in KDE 4.8.4!
Comment 5 Elias Probst 2012-07-04 00:18:52 UTC
A workaround for anyone affected by this bug:
→ File
→ Save As
→ 'gpg --decrypt /tmp/saved.mbox > /tmp/saved.decrypted.mbox'
→ File
→ Open
→ Select '/tmp/saved.decrypted.mbox'
→ Save attachment as usual
Comment 6 Mara Raram 2012-07-21 12:57:37 UTC
The bug still exists in KDE 4.8.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS aka Precise Pangolin
Comment 7 Lars 2012-09-05 22:00:54 UTC
Bug also exist in KDE 4.9.1. ! Sorry, but in this case Kmail is completely useless for encrypted email communication. Why UNCONFIRMED?

Comment 13 Gunter Ohrner 2013-03-24 08:18:04 UTC
The bug still persists in KDE 4.10.1 / kMail 4.10.1, so this bug exists in at least the releases 4.8, 4.9, 4.10 and 4.7.0-4.7.3.

Laurent Montel fixed this for KDE 4.7.4 as stated in bug 289534 in December 2011(!), but apparently the fix was never merged to trunk.

Please merge / port the fix to 4.10 and trunk as the usability of GPG-encrypted mails without any way to save the contained attachments is significantly hampered...
Comment 14 Mara Raram 2013-03-24 23:34:20 UTC
I do not experience this anymore after the upgrade to KDE 4.10(.1). I am on Kubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), KDE 4.10. comes from http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu

I had it in 4.8.4 (see comment #6) but it is now fixed for me.
Comment 15 Gunter Ohrner 2013-03-25 06:23:42 UTC
Mh... For me it persists; I'm on Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, so at least a pretty similar system...

Maybe it depends on how the message is structured whether it works or not?

KDE 4.10.5 (Arch Linux), Kmail 4.10.5, same problem! How KDE-Devs handle encrypted attachments?
