Description Davor Cubranic 2012-02-09 03:43:10 UTC
KMail 4.7.4 on KUbuntu 11.10 (Oneiric).

Retrieval option "Switch offline on KMail Shutdown" implies that this happens when KMail quits ("on shutdown"). But the option really means "turn Akonadi agent off if KMail is not running", that is, both before it starts and after it quits.

I knew about this configuration option, but got confused about whether it would solve a problem with Akonadi wanting my kwallet password on session startup (see bug 292544). A better wording would be "go online only when KMail is running", or something along those lines.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

This bug is still present in KMail2 5.3, and has been present in every version of KMail I have used since switching to KDE around 2010. The akonadi_imap_resource processes continue running (along with all akonadi processes) when the shutdown option is selected and KMail or Kontact are quit/not ever started.

Likely related... after updating to Akonadi 16.08 and kmail 16.08, I have seen that after logging in to KDE, Akonadi goes online and retrieves my mail, *before* I start KMail.

I have confirmed that all of my accounts are configured in KMail to go offline at KMail shutdown, but when I login they all start up and retrieve mail.

Possibly related to this... KMail doesn't shut down cleanly any more. When I choose "File | Quit" from the menu, while the GUI closes, the KMail process continues to run in the background. Could it be that KMail simply isn't recognizing that its being shut down and as a result its not sending notification to Akonadi to take the accounts offline?
