Description Davor Cubranic 2012-01-27 01:57:12 UTC
Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS: Linux

As soon as I log in, I'm greeted with a dialog from KDE wallet with the following message:
The application '{account-name} of type IMAP E-Mail Server' has requested to
open the wallet 'kdewallet'. Please enter the password for this wallet
below.

Why is it necessary to have Akonadi IMAP server request access to the wallet the second I log in? And is it really necessary to have it running at all times even before I started Kontact/KMail?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
The KDE wallet password dialog comes up.

Expected Results:
Wallet password is not requested until the IMAP server needs to be queried from KMail.

Valid in master. I see that quite often (but not always)

hm I did read too fast. What I get is different (and a real issue)

This dialog is expected if you added a password to your wallet. You can configure kmail to switch the mail resources offline when you quit it.

Unrelated. see bug 283211

Can you please clarify "switch off the mail resources when you quit KMail"? This is before KMail running, as soon as I log in.

Why did you reopen this report ?

settings /configure kmail / accounts / retrieval options / switch offline...

You don't need to get tetchy, I was just trying to get more information from you and don't know whether comment notifications are sent out for closed bugs. I would have closed the bug afterwards myself.

All I tried to ask was whether this "switch off on quit" also means that when I log in and *before* KMail starts, Akonadi IMAP resource will not be run. Because "switch off when you quit" implies it will be shut down *after* KMail exits, which is not what this bug is about.

I can confirm that turning account retrieval option "switch offline on KMail shutdown" fixed this problem. I filed a new bug to request a clearer option name. (See bug 293688.)

If I don't close kmail before logging off, akonadi imap agent requests access to wallet on login. Is this normal? I would like it to only request access when I open kmail.

Kim, see comment #4:

Go to Settings and choose Configure KMail. In the dialog, choose the Accounts tab, and select in Retrieval options "Switch offline on KMail Shutdown".

You will still need to quit KMail before logging off, though. Otherwise, when you log back in, your last session will be restored, which includes restarting KMail, and that will start the Akonadi agent no matter what.
Comment 9 Kim 2012-02-18 09:43:20 UTC
"Switch offline on KMail Shutdown" is already selected. On login, my last session is not restored (I start with an empty session). So, is it normal that akonadi imap agent requests access to kwallet on login before even opening kmail or is it a bug?

No, that doesn't sound like it's working properly. I'd file a new bug report if I were you.

It seems that KMail2 is getting more and more duplicates (although not labeled as ones) because so many bugs are closed invalidly. Ie. I thing that this bug should be re-opened and bug 297615 should be closed as duplicate of this one. No?
Comment 12 Joachim Wagner 2013-02-14 10:57:35 UTC
Suddenly also have this problem. Ticking the option "Switch offline on KMail Shutdown" did not help. More details in my comment on bug 297615. - JJ
