Version: unspecified (using Devel) OS: Linux In KDE 4.8 the notification widget hides itself by default if there are no notification in its history. However, if it is hidden, and a new notification is triggered, the icon appears and glows and indicates there is something but the notification does not pop up. They only pop up if the icon is already visible. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make sure the widget’s hide policy is set to Auto 2. Clear your notification history 3. Open krunner and type “kdialog --passivepopup "test"” Actual Results: The info icon appears and glows. Expected Results: The info icon appears and glows and the notification is shown.
I failed to reproduce this using recent development version
I just tested it on latest master. The (i) thing appears and animates but the notification does not pop up automatically.
I can reproduce this bug on KDE 4.8.1 but cannot reproduce it on latest KDE from project neon ppa.
Fixed on 4.9.0. Notifications appear properly now.

Sorry.. but I seems still have this problem in KDE 4.9.1. The behaviour is exactly same as describe in #1. (clear history, and do a notification).
@Weng Xuetian Try with new user. With my current user I have this issue in KDE 4.8 (after upgrading from 4.7) but with new user and clean configs I cannot reproduce it.
Yeah.. I remove plasma*rc.. and seems resolve the problem.. I carelessly did not backup the problematic file...
Weng, could you share in more details what you did to resolve your issue? I have a fresh install of Kubuntu 12.10 using KDE 4.9.3 and I have the same problem. I can reproduce the steps in the original bug report. If I force the notification to "always visible", the message pops up. If it's set to auto, there is no pop-up if the notification icon is hidden. It simply shows up and flashes, but no pop-up.
